Stars' five-defensemen rotation is not a long-term solution
Dallas has been rotating five D, leaving young Nils Lundkvist twiddling his thumbs while riding the pine pony.
“Hey Nils, you are playing two minutes again tonight.”
This is an obvious exaggeration with a clip from a fantastic movie. I mean, who ever thought the underdogs would come out of the annual JV-Varsity showdown to change the school’s team name forever? Certainly not I.
But the point is still the same. The current five-defensemen rotation is not a long-term solution for Dallas in these playoffs.
"We played five D the last [three] games, the first two games we didn't," Stars coach Pete DeBoer said. “I lost in the conference final to Montreal… And they essentially ran four D the entire playoff just about. I don't think there is a rule that you have to play six D [for] even minutes or anything like that. Just depends on the situation."
Before we get into the numbers, think about this for a moment.
