What's Up, Devils Fans?
I'm excited to be back home covering the NJ Devils. Before we dive in, here's a bit about me.
Devils fans!
First of all, thank you for all of your kind words on Twitter. I know you don’t get a second chance at a first impression and that was a dang good one. I am eager and excited to get started covering Jersey’s team. But first, a bit about me.
Not only was I raised in NJ, I am from NJ. There is no other way to put it.
Growing up in Chatham, I played hockey for the Cougars, even skating at the Prudential Center my senior year (2011 State Champs, but who’s counting?)
Funny enough, my first ever NHL game was Game 2 of the 2000 Stanley Cup Final between the Devils and the Dallas Stars….you can’t make this stuff up.
My writing story is a simple one. I began covering the Stars a few years ago, and have had plenty of good times along the way. But as much as I loved every minute in Dallas and will cherish each relationship I have, I can’t wait to get back to my roots to cover the team I grew up watching my entire life.
Jersey faithful, I’m excited to chat with you and join an awesome hockey community.
Feel free to reach out anytime on Twitter (@samnestler) for hockey or Taylor Ham (yes, it is Taylor Ham) questions and comments. And for most of my writing, podcasts, and video, subscribe for free to my Substack!
See you soon.
Welcome home Sam. Glad your part of the “Devils” family.
Welcome Sam!
My first devils game was back in ‘93. I also made it to one of those 2000 cup finals games. Unfortunately we both saw losses, but that triple ot Modano goal for the would be cup clinching game broke my heart a bit. They made up for it the next game though!
